Saturday Leadership Sessions
Do not procrastinate. Be consistent in following the prophet and in making correct choices. A father is a leader/teacher. See the world and get exercise at the same time – biking (bicycling)! “Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed in all diligence.” (D&C 107:99) “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth ...” (Ezekiel 3:17) We are watchmen on a tower (we can see what others can’t)
From Henry B. Eyring
“The teacher’s duty is to watch over the church always, and be with and strengthen them” (D&C 20:53) … And here’s the rest of Ezekiel 3:17 – “… and give them warning from me.” We need to warn the wicked (i.e. anyone who has gone/is going astray, like our family members or HT families, that they (not us) will be accountable for their being/going astray.
Saturday Adult Session
“My name is Jehovah, and I know the end from the beginning; therefore my hand shall be over thee.” (Abr 2:8) “Be thou humble; and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers.” (D&C 112:10) Be humble. “Nevertheless, Jacob, my firstborn in the wilderness, thou knowest the greatness of God; and he shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain.” (2 Ne 2:2) “And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” (Ether 12:27) Challenges are opportunities to become more than we could otherwise have been …. If we “take” them the right way.
“Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work.” (D&C 10:5)
Teach our children in light and truth.
Keeping records/journals IS important … they help us think of and identify strengths/weaknesses, and to act accordingly (i.e. we are able to see “patterns”). Records are written so things/people may be remembered.
Be conscious of the rising generation … our children and other youth. Our best efforts should be to strengthen our marriage/home/family. Teach our children at home the basic principles of the Gospel. Bear testimony to them!
From Henry B. Eyring --
The Articles of Faith should not just be known by our children, but be “in” them (a part of them). The Father love those who love his son. Pray to the Father in the NAME of Jesus Christ (Elder David B. Haight emphasized “name” whenever he closed each prayer … “in the name of Jesus Christ”). When you teach a principle, help them experience that principle. All the Articles of Faith come back to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Sunday General Session
From Henry B. Eyring --
What we should aim for is the same “sociality” as existed when we were with Heavenly Father before the earth was created. Here are practices that will help bring this about -- Forgive others (quickly). Do not harbor grudges. Think not more of yourself better/more than others. We should all be equal and feel equal to each other. Send no one “away” and set not your heart on riches. Remember Christ himself who even though so much greater than us, served those around him and thought of himself no better than others and earned their love and respect. We have been given gifts/talents so that we may bless others. There are those around you in need – help them … show a kindness … etc. Help them and they will be impressed to do the same, for others! Do this especially in your family! Be aware of the “little” things. Be true to each other. Be trustworthy. Don’t pretend ... be real. Be careful what you think about … what you want. Want what God wants for his children … always be thinking about this. God loves each of his children ... may we do the same! We can have that same sociality as we did when we were originally with Heavenly Father. Do these things, and our nature will change (to be like our elder brother).
