Enriching Lives through Online Training

Develop Self-Discipline (5/12/07)
(from Get the Most Out of Life, by Derrick Sweet)

When you practice self-discipline on a regular basis, your willpower will begin to take on a life of its own. Lack of willpower may prevent you from creating the consistency needed to attain your goals. It takes self-discipline to actually do all the steps necessary to reach each goal. With so many choices about how to spend our time, it becomes all too easy to get off track. Most people do. It’s not enough to have good intentions; we all have good intentions. We need good habits. To have good habits, we need to be motivated enough to resist all the temptations that beg for your time. In your mind’s eye, you need to visualize how you will feel as you accomplish each goal. See yourself wearing that size-eight bathing suit. Visualize how much more energy your will have with 30 fewer pounds on your body. Only when you have “emotionalized” your desired goals in this way will there be any hope for acquiring self-discipline.
