Enriching Lives through Online Training
DO IT NOW … JUST DO IT (5-26-04)

Brethren, It seems the universal/natural "tendency" of man to procrastinate … to decide not to decide (now) … to postpone action till we feel "moved" to act … to satisfy wants before needs. However, in doing so (or, should we say, in NOT doing so) … "repercussions" are inevitable … or, in other words, we reap what we sow … or, for every action/inaction there are consequences that "automatically" follow!

The scriptures are replete with counsel/advice/warning –

"And thus we see, that there was a time granted unto man to repent, yea, a probationary time, a time to repent and serve God … Therefore, as they had become carnal, sensual, and devilish, by nature, this probationary state became a state for them to prepare; it became a preparatory state." (Alma 42:4,10)

"For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors. And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed." (Alma 34:32-33)

"And now, my brethren, I wish from the inmost part of my heart, yea, with great anxiety even unto pain, that ye would hearken unto my words, and cast off your sins, and not procrastinate the day of your repentance" (Alma 13:27)

"I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments." (Psalms 119:60)

"Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh." (Matt 24:44)

"And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut." (Matt 25:10)

"Wherefore, if ye believe me, ye will labor while it is called today." (D&C 64:25)

"He that seeketh me early shall find me, and shall not be forsaken." (D&C 88:83)

"I tell you these things because of your prayers; wherefore, treasure up wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear." (D&C 38:30)

"For if you will that I give unto you a place in the celestial world, ye must prepare yourselves by doing the things which I have commanded you and required of you." (D&C 78:7)

"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing …" (D&C 88:119)

"And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order." (Mosiah 4:27)

This last verse is the "key" … if we prepare/act ahead of time … we will be prepared and won’t have to rush to be done "on time." Do today the thing that needs to be done today, that we may have peace of mind … not "dreading" tomorrow, because we are "ready" today!
